About Haringey
Haringey is a fantastic place to live and work – the world in one borough. A place brimming with creativity, personality, radicalism, and community. It is a place where we stand up for each other. A place that is proudly distinctive. We’ll be celebrating all this and more as the “rebel borough” when we are the 2027 London Borough of Culture. Our history champions change-makers and everyday rebels; revelling in our differences, battling discrimination, championing equality, and doing things our own way. Haringey’s people are a huge asset, with knowledge, expertise, and passion. Our staff members embody our organisational values: Caring, Creative, Courageous, Collaborative and Community-focused. These values keep us looking forward, ambitious for the future, and continuously striving to do our very best for all of our residents.
About the Role
As an In-year Primary Admissions Officer in the School Service you will be responsible for processing all primary in year applications and ensuring that every primary aged child moving to Haringey is offered a school place in accordance with the time scales set out by the Local Authority.
The postholder will be expected to manage the strategic and procedural aspects of In Year admissions on a daily basis in accordance with the School Admissions Code, the agreed co-ordinated scheme and annual service plan. You will ensure that admission procedures are carried out effectively within given timescales including the resolution of conflicting deadlines, identification of problems and their solutions.
About the Service
The Schools and Learning Service ensure that the education provision in Haringey is of high quality for all pupils and young people. All teams within the Service work within the framework set out by the Corporate Delivery Plan of ensuring that every child and young person is equipped, supported and able to achieve their full potential. For the Council, this means providing high-quality, joined-up services that provide children, young people and families with holistic care and support, all the way through their childhood and adolescence.
The Service is exceptionally busy throughout the year and is a challenging place to work. Knowledge of legislation relating to school admissions, school governance, CME and appeals and exclusion hearings is desired but not essential. For an informal discussion and more information please contact: Carlo Kodsi on 07870362260.
About You
You will be expected to develop and maintain excellent relationships with schools and all related professionals. You will be organised, methodical and able to manage and prioritise your own workload while remaining calm under pressure. You will be competent with ICT packages with great attention to detail.
You will be required to prepare cases for the Primary Fair Access panel. You will contribute to effective team-development through providing feedback on processes and local issues, processes, and communication, building a collaborative relationship with schools, Children Missing Education team and the Education Welfare Service team to ensure the receipt of pupil level data, and information required for the operation of School Admissions of children enrolling and leaving schools.
